SUMMER EXHIBITION

I am pleased to invite you all to the Summer Exhibition at the yard:ARTspace. The preview evening is 21 July, 6-9pm.
So if you find yourself in sunny Cheltenham that evening join us for a cup of Pimms and celebrate the art of Collagraph with my Solo Work Group.
The Solo Work Group have been coming to the yard:ARTspace for 5 terms now and use the printmaking facilities with light technical support from me.
Solo Working is aimed at artists who need the facilities of a printmaking studio to develop work, explore techniques learnt in class and realise their printmaking ambitions in a supportive atmosphere.
There has been a busy air in the studio as exciting experimental work is wrapped for the browser.
These spaces will be transformed from class room to
exhibition spaces and will be open from 11-4 pm 22-24 July.
It will be well worth a visit if you are interested in printmaking. Here are a few examples to whet your appetite.

A GRAND DAY OUT

Yesterday morning I packed the car at 6 am to head off to Twenty Twenty Gallery in Much Wenlock to deliver a Quick Collagraph workshop for them.
The weather looked promising and when I arrived
Much Wenlock looked it's idyllic best.
I knew I was in the right place as I found this word in the car park!!
9 willing victims   learners arrived and everything was set up for a fast and furious collagraph making session.
Quick collagraph consists of applying self adhesive tapes to mount board and cutting and peeling the surface.
No waiting for glue or varnish to dry, just make a plate and print it!
Oil based inks were used for the best possible results and I tried out a new idea on this enthusiastic group.
I had given them 3 different sized pieces of card
and encouraged to them to make 3 plates.
Inked up in different colours then
printed the plates on top of each other.
The results were rich juicy coloured prints with the option
of printing each plate separately
the Priory Hall was buzzing with activity.
After a delicious lunch, thank you Claire for looking after us,
it was onto chine collee.
Love it or loath chine collee, that added piece of coloured tissue
can make such a difference to a piece.
Thank you everyone for being experimental and trying these complex processes with such gusto. Thank you Mary, owner of Twenty Twenty Gallery  for organising this successful class.
My next workshop in Much Wenlock will be 24 September, Viscosity Monoprinting contact the gallery for booking details.

LINO MASTER CLASS

This weekend saw the yard:ARTspace hosting it's most ambitious workshop yet
a Lino print Master class.
In 2 days we covered reduction lino cut techniques,
2 block colour separation,
offset registration,
Blended rolls in inking and
chine collee.
Despite the dull weather the Work room
was filled with colour and
vigorous experimentation.
lots of work was made and
the over flow airer was deployed.
It was non stop printmaking all weekend.
Thanks to Hawthorn inks who had sent me samples to try we
discovered that the prints semi dried over night and did not have the sticky quality I usually find with oil based ink when relief printing...worth more experimentation.
This was the last weekend workshop for this term, for details of more goings on at the yard:ARTspace go to www.theyardartspace.com or join the yard facebook page, or join my mailing list to be updated, details at the top of the post.
