SOMETHING FOR THE WEEKEND

The term may be over at the yard:ARTspace, but have been a couple more weekend workshops happening in the lovely sunshine.

I ran my signature workshop Mixed Media Sketch book and Gum Arabic Transfer printing.

In the heat we printed with photocopies

creating layers of 

image and colour.

Then threw paint,

Ink, Wax

and bleach at everything.

Finally folding the sheet of worked paper 

to create these fabulous pamphlet booklets.

I have just had to overwhelm you with the results as

I can't choose my favourite book.

They were all so different and

considered.

I feel a bit bad about sending home

several people with a new 

and compulsive gum arabic transfer printing habit.

With the gorgeous weather comes fabulous vegetation. 

Once again I am lucky enough to host the textile artist Claire Cawte for a weekend

 

of Eco Printing, Rusting and Dying.

Strange things bubbled in cauldrons in the Press room.

Odd packages appeared.

Primitive tableau's were enacted outside.

Looking like mummified exhibits and

works of art in their own right, these packages turned into

wonderful lengths of fabric when unraveled.

Extraordinary colours were produced with fruits, 

flowers and leaves.

Everyone took away a must have accessory.

This academic year the yard:ARTspace has hosted talented artists generously sharing their skills. Next term and 2019 will be no exception, but book early to avoid disappointment, places go fast.

END OF THE SUMMER TERM

The summer holidays are here, but this heralds the end of the 10 week printmaking course at the yard:ARTspace.

It was a very involved term learning to cut and print lino as a feature section to a collagraph background.

The first couple of weeks were spent designing and cutting lino. Printing with oil based ink, including sections of chine collee.

Then off setting the lino print onto a piece of mount board in order to create a collagraph plate that the lino will fit into.

In many cases the collagraph worked equally well with and without the lino print on it.

But as you can see from the following examples the lino makes that extra focus point to 

the over all composition.

There is a morning class,

an afternoon group and

an evening class all running on a Wednesday in term time.

Everyone made beautiful prints, coping with the 

technical challenges I threw at them week

after week.

MIDSUMMER BLUES

Summer has arrived, as I type my garden is filled with sunshine and 

it has been like this for a couple of weeks now.

As you have seen from my earlier posts it has been all about the sunshine, colour

and after seeing these wonderful examples of Cyanotypes in Bath I have been looking forward to the workshop at the yard:ARTspace

Lesley has a real passion for this fascinating process and I am thrilled to have her back at the yard teaching us all Cyanotype. The work room was darkened to allow us to coat paper and fabric.

And then the sun went in!!

After days of sunny weather, and further days after, 

we spent the weekend chasing the sun.

The locals wondered what exactly was going on in the yards, yard!

But with Lesley's enthusiastic guidance extraordinary results were achieved. 

There was a little more sun on the Sunday and we created toned versions using tea and bleach.

We just didn't give up and were rewarded for keeping the faith.

I am delighted to report that Lesley will be back at the yard:ARTspace in October to teach a Sewn Spine book making technique and July 2019 to make Cyanotypes again...fingers crossed for sunny weather.
