PAPER LITHOGRAPHY

I have been experimenting with  Paper Lithography also known as Gum Arabic transfer printmaking for years. I use it as a technique to develop photographic images in my sketch book practice. It is a quick simple way to add images to work without specialized equipment. But I am being drawn to using it on fabric more and more. This page is cataloguing my progress and my research and development around the use of this flexible printmaking technique.
OCTOBER 2018 - A collagraph print on silk, now exploring paper lithographic prints in the back ground, very much a work in progress. Still more teetering on the edge of stitching into this piece. I am enjoying the joining up if my printmaking practices.
SEPTEMBER 2018 - I am becoming more and more fascinated by the possibility of using fabric as a substrate for printmaking.
These are just 3 pieces of a larger installation that have been exhibited in the Museum in the Park, Stroud as part of the Into the Light Exhibition. October 2018.
Collagraph, gum arabic transfer and eco printing have been used on these silk samples. Am I teetering on the brink of stitching next?
JUNE 2018 - I have spent the summer of 2018 learning textile techniques and had a happy morning mark making onto fabric with Art Van Go in June. Resist techniques that I use all the time in my sketch book became a revelation to me on fabric.
Back home I stitched into these pieces with the encouragement of Catherine Kingzett,
almost loving the back more than the front.
But the excitement came when I over printed a gum arabic transfer. The ink penetrated the stitched thread pulling the whole piece together. Another step along my textile journey.
Over the last couple of years I have been exploring the technique on textiles and combining stitch. Here are the results of my experimentation and work developing from it.
